Consulting Practice
I first became aware of Arup during a lecture as part of my Masters degree. Carol Battle, a senior sustainability consultant at Arup, provided an in-depth overview of the carbon pricing schemes being undertaken around the world. I approached Carol regarding opportunities for work placement with the company, before applying and gaining a position within the graduate program in 2011.
My work as a sustainability consultant today covers the full range of advisory services offered within the sustainability group (climate change, sustainability and environmental). Most recently this has included the development of a greenhouse gas inventory for Brisbane City Council and assessing the technical and financial feasibility of carbon reduction measures for the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
One of the best things about work within the sustainability group is the range of projects which I am able to participate in. This can include, for example, technical studies such as life cycle analysis for manufactured products, and environmental approvals including Environmental Impact Assessments for large scale infrastructure projects.
Arup supports my enthusiasm for continual learning, not only through this project diversity but also by encouraging professional development. This allows me to participate in a range of external conferences and training opportunities, which ensure I am always up to date with the latest legislation and best practice approaches to sustainability.
