Meet The Team

Nicholas Kelly

Civil Engineer

I’ve been with Arup for just over two years, working on water quality modelling for sustainable design. Although it’s a large international company, there’s such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I’m a junior member of staff, but I never have any worries about approaching people for help, getting involved or pursuing opportunities to learn and develop. Everyone is willing to listen to my ideas, so I feel like I’m making a huge difference.

Right now I’m working on an intersection upgrade on the Central Coast Highway in Kariong. I’m responsible for the drainage design from concept to 100% issue. It has been a challenging project where I’ve had to pick up a lot of new skills in order to progress the design. I’ve learnt new software tools not used by anyone else and have had to bring myself up to speed very quickly on the standards we need to work to. It’s been very interesting and I’ve been surprised by just how many skills I have actually picked up and feel confident using.

What I’ve realised in the time I’ve been here is that you need to use your initiative to take advantage of the opportunities at Arup. The experiences are challenging, but if you put the effort in you’ll see the rewards.
