Meet The Team
Joyce Tang
Façade Engineer
In my mind Arup was always a reputable firm, well-known for its association with prestigious projects and pioneering approach to engineering. It was somewhere I knew I wanted to work.
Back then, as a graduate engineer without much experience, I expected I'd get involved in small-scale engineering projects; maybe help in calculations and computer simulations. It turned out that my experiences of the grad program far exceeded my expectations.
For example, I've worked on the Aldar Central Market, located in the centre of Abu Dhabi. The tallest development in the emirate, it's going to change the skyline. My work ranged from designing structural schemes for a new façade system, to checking shop drawings produced by sub-contractors. Occasionally I inspected façade performance tests on site or met with architects and other consultants.
I learned a lot on this project. It was an amazing experience and an invaluable opportunity for me to develop professionally and personally. Moving to Dubai took me out of my comfort zone, however everyone was so supportive that it was almost as if I hadn't left home at all. My colleagues in Dubai also encouraged and inspired me to take my chartered exam in the Gulf.
With a firm that is so devoted to its staff, Arup set no boundaries and let us fully explore and develop our potential and capabilities to achieve anything we can imagine. With so many opportunities, you'll find there are no limits.
