Meet The Team
Jillian Dinsdale
Fire Engineer
I noticed Arup because of the range and size of their projects. Then I heard about the culture, the social side of life at Arup and the opportunities to move around in an international company. That sealed the deal for me!
In my role, I inspect and analyse buildings, liaise with fire services and present fire strategies. Convincing stakeholders that things will be okay from a safety perspective, especially with new and innovative designs, means I have an enormous input in the progression of a project. However, I’m not sitting at my desk all day. I get out on site and work with people from lots of different firms.
After working on a high profile new building in Sydney’s CBD, I’m now enjoying work on the Royal North Shore Hospital. It’s an interesting project; there’s plenty to consider concerning fire and escape when many of the occupants are patients. Exposure to these challenges has helped me become more confident in the last 12 months, to the point where I’m already managing my own tasks and small projects. And because Arup is so well networked, I can find support from all over the business. It’s very easy to meet someone new in your own office or even speak to someone in another country to get the answers you need.
Another great aspect of working here is the social activities [/social.html]. I’ve been involved in lots of events and teams, including being part of a winning dragon boat team! Whether it’s work or fun, with Arup you’ll be doing something different everyday.
