Meet The Team
Elissa Ward
Façade Consultant
I joined Arup after spending three months on the vacation placement and that time was more than enough to convince me. The Arup culture is so enthusiastic and supportive and it was clear that as a grad I’d get plenty of opportunities to develop my skills. One of the benefits of the grad program is that Arup makes sure we fully explore our interests to decide where we’d best fit in.
What I’ve enjoyed since I started is the immense amount of confidence people here have in me. I’ve been given a lot of support in developing my own ideas and improved my technical, project management and client relationship skills. Colleagues are happy for me to take on lots of responsibility and push me to ensure I can make the most of the interesting projects.
I am currently working on two projects in Melbourne that are in construction - a research lab and the Old County Court refurbishment. When I started, I was also keen to apply my skills to overseas projects and now I’m spending some time working on the IQ Tower, collaborating with Arup in New York.
Another benefit of working at Arup is that it’s also a very social environment and there are many sporting and other social events you can join in, and you are encouraged to do so no matter what your ability. Anyone can have a go. And if you want to organise something new, you’ll certainly be encouraged. Last year I organised a ski trip for our office. You can tell Arup’s not the sort of place where you get bored!
